Stud Bolts Dimensions chart for RF-RTJ flanges ASME B16.5
Stud bolts are fully threaded fasteners used in flange connections in piping systems. ASME B16.5 provides guidelines for flange dimensions, and the associated stud bolt lengths are based on flange types, sizes, and pressure ratings.
Stud Bolt length are defined in ASME B16.5 standard. The length in inches is equal to the effective thread length measured parallel to the axis, from the first to the first thread without the chamfers (points). First thread is defined as the intersection of the major diameter of the thread with the base of the point.
How to identify a Stud Bolt?
- Diameter: the OD of the bolt should match the flange’s bolt hole diameter.
- Length: Includes the distance between the two nuts and any allowances for washers or flange thickness.
- Studs length are measured parallel to the axis (L) from the first to the thread without the chamfers (points). S = free threads equals 1/3 time bolt dia
- Thread Series: Typically Unified National Coarse (UNC) for bolts up to 1 inch and 8 threads per inch for larger sizes (UN8).
- Material: Matches the flange material and service environment (e.g., ASTM A193 B7 for high-temperature applications).
