A weld-in bung, sometimes referred to as a bung fitting or weld bung, is a small cylindrical metal component with threads on one end and an open hole on the other. These bungs are typically made of materials such as steel, stainless steel, or aluminum.
Weld Bung is similar to a weld boss making a transition between a pipe or a vessel, and a fitting. Whenever a process vessel and a fitting need to join, a bung weld is a common solution. Bung welds are typically welded to a flat or curved surface of a wall of the process chamber, or to a side of a pipe. Once welded to the vessel, bung welds provide a permanent threaded port where fittings can be easily installed. Bung welds are not to be confused with socket welds or butt welds. The difference between a bung weld and a socket weld is bung welds have female threads while socket welds have plain bores to be welded to pipe ends. Threads can be NPT, Metric, SAE, BSW, or can also be made customized
